The right SpectraMax i-Series reader for research

For more than three decades, Molecular Devices has been dedicated to designing and manufacturing cutting-edge microplate readers, continually working to enhance and fine-tune the instruments.

The i-Series lineup boasts several distinctive features that empower scientists to achieve more dependable results in record time, overcoming common challenges encountered in the laboratory.

Auto PMT

Challenge: The instrument's dynamic range is constrained by a conventional Photo Multiplier Tube (PMT) or detector. Due to the necessity of setting a specific gain for a PMT to attain a particular sensitivity, signals falling below or exceeding that gain are not accurately measured, restricting the adaptability of users’ assays.

The Solution: Utilizing Auto PMT ensures the comprehensive dynamic range of the PMT is employed to measure both the lowest and highest possible concentrations in a single run. This eliminates the need for sample dilution or repeated plate readings, saving users time and effort.

Spectral Fusion

Challenge: Despite the Xenon flash lamp's effectiveness as a light source in microplate readers, it exhibits diminished light intensity between 430 to 680 nm wavelengths.

Solution: Spectral Fusion tackles this problem by integrating targeted LEDs to augment light intensity, ultimately elevating user assay sensitivity. With adjustable LED light intensity, users can optimize the detector for peak sensitivity, enabling the detection of ultra-low concentration samples without the concern of saturation.

NFC personalization (SpectraMax iD3 and iD5)

Challenge: One machine in a laboratory may be utilized by multiple users, each with distinct applications and protocols. This situation can lead to wasted time spent reconfiguring the machine for each user, as well as the potential for confusion or insecure data handling.

The Solution: The incorporation of near-field communication (NFC) technology allows each user to have an individual tag that, with a single tap, can access their customized protocols and results. This not only saves time but also minimizes the risk of user errors.
