Atomic Force Microscopy

Atomic force microscopy utilizes fine probes for providing high resolution and three-dimensional view of an object at nanometer levels. Atomic force microscopy is used for determining the mechanical properties in the force ranging between 10 pN and 1 μN; measuring rheological properties, mechanical property changes in cell viscoelasticity, cell stiffness and cell membranes; assessing cell adhesion; studying biological samples in vitro, in situ, and in vivo without preparing samples. Atomic force microscopy uses aqueous or nonaqueous medium, has no limitations on the chemical composition and temperature of the sample, and has applications in nanotechnology (imaging nanostructures and polymers), chemistry, material sciences, biochemistry (for biological structure imaging of cells, cellular components, and molecules), biophysics, and physics.
